[It's an announcement from Principal Munroe again. This time, her voice lacks the animation it once had.]

Students. Staff.

I wished to report on the success of the recovery mission. I am…afraid that report has been marred by tragedy.

Kurt Wagner, our performing arts instructor, has succumbed to the virus.

All other residents have been recovered safely.

...I understand we have asked much of you, but we cannot delay the start of instruction any longer. Classes will resume by the end of the week, albeit under a reduced workload.

Crisis counseling will be available should you need it.

[An announcement finally appears on the school network, with Principal Munroe speaking. Her voice is grave, but professional and steadfast as always.]

Students and staff.

As you are aware, there have been a number of disappearances from the school’s infirmary, specifically the quarantined area. There is no current exposure risk to students, and the location of the missing patients has been found.

Classes are postponed until we can get them back.

We ask for your patience in dealing with this matter.

[Private message to the recovery team: Shulk, Joss, Meiling, Reki, Rinka, Kisume, Feliks, Yuui, Greg]

You are needed in the hangar.

[Normally, the Institute doesn't have anything like end-of-the-school-day announcements. Students' schedules here, with their mix of academic, field-, and power-related courses, make setting aside time for that kind of formality difficult, and so last period's end comes only on the instructor's say-so. (For those reckless or unlucky enough to take their day's last course with a more hard-ass type, this can get pretty miserable by the middle of the week.)

Today is an exception, however, and all classes are set to break five minutes early, so students can flip onto the school network. And, right on schedule, there's Principal Munroe's voice, crisp and formal yet still warm.]

Attention, students.

Before you're all set free for today - as of this afternoon, we have finished tallying results for the student elections held this past weekend. We would like to congratulate all who participated, whether by running or by casting a ballot, for their involvement in a mature and respectfully run campaign. [Certain obnoxious, troubled children's write-in drives notwithstanding.]

That being said, your student government officers for this academic year are as follows:

  • President, with a firm majority of the vote, Mr. Alric Caelgart.

  • His Vice-President, winning with a plurality in this year's closest race, will be Mr. Bridget Halford. Mr. Halford was also unanimously voted as your Freshman Class Representative.

  • Senior Class Representative, Ms. Kaguya Houraisan.

  • Junior Class Representative, [ -- muffled static here?? Was there something wrong with Principal Munroe's audio equipment? Anyway, whatever name she said, it didn't sound like anyone you know.]

  • Sophomore Class Representative, elected on an impressive number of write-in votes, Ms. Krista Lenz.

  • Finally, in an uncontested race, your Middle School Representative will be Mr. Ken Amada.

Congratulations are in order for all of our new student council members and for everyone who involved themselves in this year's voting. As President, Mr. Caelgart will be responsible for scheduling and conducting all council meetings for the remainder of the year. Meanwhile, for today...

Classes are dismissed.

[You know you don't have to actually dress up for prom just to announce it, right, Emma?

See, look: shortly after the White Queen finishes stirring up the Institute's social circles, here's Ororo, for once not broadcasting from her indoor garden. Instead, she's actually working from the office, settled behind her desk, just to make clear that this address is going to be very prim, official, and dignified.]

Before you all get too caught up in making plans for this year's prom, one other announcement.

Under normal circumstances, we'd have hoped to have student voices involved in planning any event as important to school life as this one will be. The Institute is a second home to many of us, and it's essential that you all be able to make yourselves heard in your daily lives here. To say nothing of making room for those who wish to take on a leadership role...

[Storm folds her hands across the top of her desk and smiles, quietly pleased.]

However, as tumultuous as this year has been, there's not yet been an opportunity for you all to select who you would like to speak for you collectively. Charles and I have been discussing the matter...and we've decided that it's past time that you elected a student government. Those chosen will be responsible not just for communicating your interests to the school administration but also for representing you on matters of student discipline and school events and projects.

To that end, this month each high school class will be electing one class representative, who will each have a vote as part of your new student council. All lower grades, for the time being, will elect a single representative who will have non-voting input. [Sorry, kids, but you can only trust a super-powered 6th grader with so much authority.] And, finally, all students through the university-level will be eligible to run for the positions of student body president and vice-president, who will stand in charge of all council affairs.

Nominations will be open starting today, through the beginning of the next school week, and everyone is welcome to nominate either themselves or any of their classmates they believe would make a worthy candidate. Campaign speeches and the election itself will be held during the last week of April...so you'll all have the remainder of the month to make yourself known to your fellow students.

[In other words: Let the campaign season begin! Those are all the nitty-gritty details Ororo has to lay out for now, so she sits back and opens the floor for any response.]

Questions, students?

[Inside the garden dome that serves as Storm's personal domain, there's an unaccountable mist. Outside, though the snow's let up, it's still unmistakably the tail end of a New York winter. But here the air is humid and warm, and Storm stands in the one spot in the room not presently being tended by a steady drizzle.

It says something that she's opted to make this address from here, rather than from the less soothing interior of the principal's office.]

Students, faculty...friends. A moment of your time.

We are all, I'm sure, still dwelling on the violence we witnessed in District X this past week. Many of you behaved admirably there, defending the lives not only of your classmates but also of innocents forced into harm's way. Under the most trying conditions, you acted just as we would have hoped. You made your school and all of us who stand alongside you proud.

And yet... [Ororo frowns, brushing some cloud cover overhead further back with a sweep of her hand.]
Cut for extended, serious speech )

[The video shows a rarely seen place. Erm, that is to say, you see it a lot. It's hard to miss the big glass dome on top of the building, after all. But no students have been inside of it, certainly. At least not yet. Maybe some of the classes might visit someday, but either way we're getting distracted THE VIDEO IS IN THE GARDEN IN THE DOME there. It is well understood as being the personal space of the school's principal, Ororo Munroe. She is even more popularly known by the name "Storm".

Which makes sense as to why it was raining inside of there.
]

Greetings students. I trust and hope that you have found this first week of the new school year well. I understand how difficult a transition it can be for you new students as well. After all, these hallowed halls are quite a far cry from where I was before Professor Xavier found me.

But that is not why I am here to speak to you today. Enough have said plenty about how "the future is yours to make" and "we have all been there before" and other pleasant yet heavy things. I am here to speak about something more... fun!

It is a tradition that the second week of any given semester be dedicated to Club Week. In this tradition, we ask the students to form social groups around special interests and common hobbies. A gardening club, for example, would be more than welcome to join me here in the Dome. [She gestured to the almost rainforest like garden behind her with a smile.] This is also a chance for those who wish to join the ranks of the X-Men to begin taking interest in team building skills.

If you have any questions about Club Week, feel free to ask. In the meantime, I encourage you to explore ideas for groups, make Intranet posts advertising them, hold gatherings... you get the idea.

Peace be with you and yours, always. [She gives a small bow to the camera before it ends.]
