Yo. So I've kinda got a question for people who've done this whole [waving a hand] "hero thing" before, or gotten involved in these sorta fights. What do you tell your family 'n all that about - this whole mess? Do ya tell them anything? 'Cause ma came to the big city for New Year's, an' we were talkin' about things... I just wasn't sure what to say.
I don't wanna go scarin' her, or get her involved in this mess. But I don't wanna lie.
Any thoughts?
[Locked to his team:]
And by the way, ma brought a hamper of stuff to share with friends. Shit, you'd think she was trying to make me explode: I've got enough here to keep me goin' for weeks. So... I wanna split this with you guys. You up for it?

My first year, I told my parents the X-Men taught students here how to use their powers for self-defense, but...that was all. I never mentioned being on a team or anything that would have sounded dangerous.
I thought -- it's not something you can expect family to understand, when they aren't here.
[It's a decision that still makes him feel like the worst son in existence when he thinks about it. That's not exactly subtle.]
But, after the Sentinel attack...they found out everything anyway. So, just...
If you decide not to tell them, you have to be ready for it to turn into a secret. If that makes sense?

Just, well, gauge your mom on how she reacts when you talk about when people come to kill us and steal our organs?

They've kept out of the way of things, really, until recently. Before the...incident, I was the first one to do anything like this. I joined a team, but I don't think they thought I was serious. My sister didn't, anyway.
[The next part is lightly locked; Flandre was still nervous about talking about this. Especially where her sister could see.]
She was afraid I'd get hurt, or...die, even.

[He bites his lower lip, remembering letters heavily mangled by censors that still managed to convey worry, and wondering what his own letters looked like when his mom got them.]
But, well, if you are doing something that might be dangerous, people who care about you usually want to know exactly how it is. Being scared and worried isn't fun for everyone, but imagine what it will be like if you get hurt? After that she'll be even more worried, because she'll think she can't trust you to tell her what's going on.

[True it's just a voice coming through, but probably has a familiar, chirpy and bright sound to it.]
"This is M'gann talking; we met before in the kitchen. Sorry about that accident with the flour, by the way?"
[There's a nervous and self-conscious cough on the other end of the line, before she continues.]
"And um... yeah, I did the 'hero' thing before. My family was mostly okay with it, though they sort of... found out about it through my uncle, instead of me. He broke the news to them about what was going on and that I was going to be a hero like him."
[Pardon that brief note of pride at the end of her voice; hard not to have it come up when talking about J'onn.]

[That's Rinka. Never one to turn down free food.]
As for your question about the whole 'hero thing'... I told my father I was joining a training team. He was okay with it, though probably because he knew even if he told me not to, I'd do it anyway. I was already going some hero-ish stuff in Tokyo before I came here, and he tried to stop me at first, but then I reminded him that he was the one who taught me how to fight.
[And then she'd kneed her dad in the face, but let's not talk about that.]
He's not very happy the school got attacked or that I got in a fight at the mall, but he understands that his is important to me. I think your mom will understand too. She's already a little involved anyway, just because she's your mom.
