Yo. So I've kinda got a question for people who've done this whole [waving a hand] "hero thing" before, or gotten involved in these sorta fights. What do you tell your family 'n all that about - this whole mess? Do ya tell them anything? 'Cause ma came to the big city for New Year's, an' we were talkin' about things... I just wasn't sure what to say.
I don't wanna go scarin' her, or get her involved in this mess. But I don't wanna lie.
Any thoughts?
[Locked to his team:]
And by the way, ma brought a hamper of stuff to share with friends. Shit, you'd think she was trying to make me explode: I've got enough here to keep me goin' for weeks. So... I wanna split this with you guys. You up for it?

"But... you don't really have anyone like that in the family? What about a..." [Give her a second to find the right word.] "A role model? Someone you really look up to? Maybe you could explain that you're sort of following in their footsteps, maybe?"

Got to be strong. Got to be worth it.]
Nah. There ain't anyone. No-one who's been involved in anythin' like this. We're just - regular folks, you know? Or were. Run a normal business. That sorta thing.

[Jealous? Her? Not really; it's more of pang of sadness that something like that was lost. True, it's a little hard to imagine Kanji doing study sessions or running to classes or all the usual things she imagines when it comes to a normal life; cooking comes a little easier though.]
"Maybe you could... could tell her about it slowly, then? Like write to her and let her know that school is going okay?"
[It IS going okay, right?]

[A bit of a shrug there. Not like he's even telling all the details about that stuff, but when the details he's missing are the likes of "got put in detention" it's all rather more mundane.]
An' I ... guess it was. Most'a the time. But at least I ain't worryin' about ... zapping the neighbour's cat or crap like that any more.

[M'gann hmms over the information.]
"Well, it's a start at least. Oh! Maybe you could tell her more about your friends! What sort of powers they have, what they're good at? That sort of thing?"
[Mind you, she has no idea if she qualifies as a friend. Casual Baking Acquaintance seems like a better category so far.]

Okay, that does sound like a pretty safe place to start.
[A pause before he adds-] I ... think she's just glad to know I've got any friends. I never really had many at my old school, or before I moved.

[From the way she gives a small gasp, plus the sound of hands clapping over her mouth, M'gann didn't QUITE mean to let that information slip out. Can't really take it back now, though. Maybe some fast conversation can distract from the point instead.]
"But it's good that you do now! I fully agree, and I think chances are she does too. It's a nice place to make friends, different powers and everything! Even if it's not exactly a normal place."
[In her book it still resembles TV, so it comes close enough.]
no subject
Seriously. It's been ... good to be able to open up 'bout everything here, y'know?
[...Most things, at least.]

"You'll figure out what to say, I think. You seem..." [Okay, she's not sure if he really DOES have a way with words, but M'gann still wants to say something encouraging.] "To care a lot, so that should help. And come through!"
[There! Not bad if she says so.]
"I'll leave you to it, too... though if you want help or something, I could... you know, lend a hand."
[But for now? She should probably end the call before she blurts out anything else.]
