Yo. So I've kinda got a question for people who've done this whole [waving a hand] "hero thing" before, or gotten involved in these sorta fights. What do you tell your family 'n all that about - this whole mess? Do ya tell them anything? 'Cause ma came to the big city for New Year's, an' we were talkin' about things... I just wasn't sure what to say.

I don't wanna go scarin' her, or get her involved in this mess. But I don't wanna lie.

[That sounds like a dare to him! So of course he takes Kanji up on it. Enter a little green snake a few minutes later. Isn't BB's smiling face just what he wants to see right now?]

[Okay. The name jokes were annoying. The dumb electric puns were annoying.

But this just went past annoying into personal. He lunges forward at the taunt-]

Wh- the hell- you're just askin' for it now!

[He ducks away, cackling. He found a sore spot! How could he resist poking it a little more?]

I'm just trying to find a name that's right for you! You should be thanking me!

[There are sparks of rage in Kanji's eyes as he yells-]

No you ain't, you're tryin' to find reasons to have your ass kicked, man! That shit's got nothin' to do with you!

[His ass kicked? Pfffft. The suggestion bugs him, though-who does Kanji think he is?]

Maybe if you were better at fighting than scrapbooking, you'd have a chance at kicking my ass.

[Oh, hell. It is on now. Closing back in, actively starting to spark up even more out of sheer fury-]

Yeah? 'Cause you're Mr. Big Shot Hero? Just 'cause I grew up fightin' off street punks not supervillains? You wanna take that chance?

[The teasing tone is all gone now. He scowls up at Kanji, letting him approach so he can get up in his face. So what if he's bigger and could probably fry BB at the speed of light? That hero jibe stings.]

What're you gonna do, macrame me? Glitter to the eyes?

[As much as Kanji's hardly one to go for the below the belt punches normally? Beast Boy started it.

He's not seeing straight any longer. And while he's gloved, not fully charged, his powers not at peak: it's not enough to stop Kanji from roaring and going in again to grab the punk he's got to call a roommate.]

[Beast Boy starts transforming as soon as he sees Kanji move, but it's not quite fast enough to keep him out of reach. Despite the electric tingle running through him, fur sprouts from his entire body. A big, green gorilla hand shoves Kanji away.]

[Oof. Kanji's rush is neatly stopped: he stumbles backwards, swearing in Japanese. Okay, if this is how Beast Boy wants to play it... Kanji grits his teeth, focuses, grabs for as much of a charge as he can in this much of a rush. His gloves are thrown to the floor and he charges back for a punch.]

[Beast Boy isn't much better at keeping a cool head than Kanji is, but he's pretty sure getting hit by those punches would be bad news. The gorilla shrinks away to a spider monkey, just barely in time to slip away. He scampers across the room, shifting back to his normal form so he can talk.]

What's your problem, dude!

[He still doesn't get why Kanji got so mad. He was just joking around, jeez! What a jerk.]

[Kanji gives a long hissed sigh through his teeth and glares venom.]

My problem is that you've been pokin' around in my stuff enough t' know how far I'm into that business. And my problem is that you don't know when to leave shit alone. I've been gettin' hell over that stuff for longer'n I've been gettin' hell for bein' a mutant, okay? An' you tryin' to call me some sorta wuss for it? Hell no! That shit stops here!
