[ And he knows how craptastic Eren is when it comes to making friends in general. The thought of him sitting alone and miserable on Christmas Eve is almost TOO SAD A THOUGHT TO BEAR. Sam briefly wonders if the teachers would let him take Eren home for Christmas...but then realizes that probably wouldn't work if he just wants to run away, and then of course there's the cost of the flight. They do lots of charity work! They took me in when I was an orphan! And we went to volunteer at the hospital and the soup kitchen all the time. We love all humanity!

[His group was more on the extreme side, but they went out of their way to look good, where taking care of their orphans was concerned.]

That would be good, too. But the Friends of Humanity take care of lots of kids.

i bet theres a lot of kids who dont get adopted like you did
this could really help them out!

Yeah, that's right, I probably would have gone to an orphanage or something like that if the Friends hadn't taken me in. We didn't have family in this country. I would like to help kids! So that's a great idea. Since they can't go home for Christmas either. And someone should get them presents.

Okay, but I can't help. They won't let me leave, and I can't have money in case I use it to help me escape. I'd like to do something like that! I used to volunteer around Christmas, it was fun. I can't, but you could do it for me.
