[He slooowly releases his wrench.

Really, Beast Boy should have noticed something was up when he saw a grown man holding a monkey wrench like a safety blanket.]

Okay, looks like he's not responding. He's not sure what to say.]

[He hesitates briefly before saying it, trying to decided which name to give. And then after another pause he slowly opens up a bit more.]

That's what's on my passport.

[The way he said that...]

Do you have another name?

[After all, the name that Garfield has on his passport isn't the one he's gone by in years, except for among family and in extreme circumstances. Maybe Jack is the same?]

[Jack takes a big breath and gathers strength for this. Beast Boy has been relatively nice, so he's earned some honesty.]

My passport is forged... It says Jack Wynand on it. But I used to be Subject WYK. [He thinks for a bit.] I like Jack. But my last name is really Ryan... I think. That's my... father's last name.

[He is so uncomfortable talking about this. A voice in his head keeps insisting people he knows are dead will kill him for saying so much.]

[Wild mad scientist theories fly through his head. He opens his mouth to ask, then shuts it again. He might be insensitive sometimes, but he feels pretty bad now for teasing Jack earlier. If he spent the last 19 years in a tube or something, no wonder he's gullible.]

...Did you get a cake for your birthday?

[Beast Boy has never been great at expressing empathy, but literally everyone likes cake.]

I did in... The memories they gave me. Every year.

There weren't as many years in real life. I spent half of them chained to a bed with... With.... [He shakes his head.]

[Okay, this? This pisses him off. He's already adding Jack's abusers to his list of people who need to be shut down ASAP.]

[Because he might be in his first week of school and flying solo for the first time in years, but this is why he's a hero. To get people like that locked up. Who cares about this dumb school stuff if those guys are out there?]

They're dead. I killed one of them - the man who bought me. I wanted to kill him the most. One of them was killed by another experiment. One of them...

Tenenbaum got away, I think. She was trying to help me. She fixed a lot of mutants they made. I don't know what happened to her, exactly, but...

I don't think I aged, though. So I guess I'm still four.

[It's just sad how casually he states all of this. It's hesitant, but... Mostly because he doesn't like speaking much.]

[Joking about it isn't very appropriate, maybe, but it's how he handles things.]

[Good job, BB, you spooked him. He looks himself over curiously, and then shakes his head.]

I've been this old since I was two. Fontaine wanted me done as fast as possible, so... All my childhood happened in a year or so.

[He wants to know more, but it's obviously not a great topic for Jack. Just as well that a new priority rears its head for Beast Boy.]
