[When Giselle flips on the video feed, she has a bright smile on her face and some freshly cut flowers in hand.]

Hello there, everyone! Welcome to our newest students and welcome back to everyone that was in stasis.

[She’s still not sure she completely understands how that works, but what she does understand is that years have passed without them. That’s got to feel strange, so she wants to do her best to be reassuring.]

My name is Giselle, and it’s lovely to meet all of you. It’s also nice to see old friends again. Oh, I’m sure we’ll have a wonderful year!

[There’s no hint of sarcasm in her voice, either. She genuinely sounds that optimistic about the future.]

If anyone new would like a tour around campus, I’d be happy to show you around. I know I was a little nervous when I started here. Everyone was very kind so don’t worry. This school can be a little unorthodox, but also a lot of fun.

[For a moment, she considers what else to mention. Things that students might want to know about beyond the basics.]

There are a lot of clubs here, so you’re sure to find something to keep yourself busy with. And if there isn’t a club for something you enjoy yet, then the teachers here are very supportive to students who want to get one started.

[She waves.]

Well, that’s it for now! Oh! Also, I have some romance books I’d be happy to loan out if anyone is looking for something new to read. Bye for now!

Well, that one is one I'll have to make sure not to leave around where the very young students could find it.

[Mid-teens and up is one thing. She might be fairly innocent, but she is also a telepath. No matter how much she might try to keep out of people's heads unless she has permission to be there, she hasn't missed that people think about it more than she would have guessed.]

They sound wonderful, though.

They are unrealistic. [pause] Though I suppose that may be some of the appeal.

[Alric, you are singing the song of her people.]

I've learned fencing, too! Although my instructor taught me a few different sword-fighting styles, including kendo. I'm also a big music fan. Do you sing, or do you play any instruments?

I always liked stories where true love conquers all. I know that it's not always the case and sometimes tragedy happens instead, but those are the kinds of books I enjoy the most.

I should not judge you for your choice in literary materials.

[But she still might.]

[He brightens a little at that--honestly he doesn't meet that many girls in his social circles who want anything to do with swords, or if they do, they don't admit it. Certainly not with the breadth of interested to have studied more than one style.]

Indeed? ...ah... I hope to see you at the kendo club, then. I've been thinking of suggesting to Mr. Hijikata that we might include the occasional sample of other styles that club members might wish to present. I'd certainly look forward to a demonstration, Miss Giselle.

Ah, as to music, I suppose I can sing, if pressed, well enough to not humiliate myself too irredeemably, but the guitar is actually my instrument of choice. I, ah... have something of a fondness for blending arrangement and composition from rock and classical genres.

[He smiles a touch sheepishly, as though aware that some people would surely be scandalized by such a thing, but there's a bit of enthusiasm, there, too; he does seem to be pretty earnest about the music.]

Oh yeah! Everyone's been real nice so far! -Mostly true. He's not going to talk about some of the guys that have been... less accepting of his lifestyle. Even among mutants, you still run into the occasional narrow-minded asshole.-

To each his or her own. Suspense thrillers and murder mysteries aren't my thing, but my father adores them.

I'm glad to hear it. Let me know if you'd like a tour around the school.

My father has some contacts in the entertainment industry and my instructor teaches actors how to convincingly use a sword and is hired to choreograph battles sometimes. He's good at the actual techniques rather than just faked ones, though.

[Because contrary to what some people might think, she does know the difference. She can appreciate the flashy techniques, but she knows what actually works and what is just for show.]

I'd really like to hear you play sometime, Alric. That sounds lovely.

Oh, no thanks! I had a chance to get around and explore m'self not a moment after arriving. It's a big place, isn't it?

[Well, he's plainly impressed, and makes no particular effort to conceal it. He nods to that suggestion, a touch sheepishly.]

And, ah... yes, if you'd like to, of course, it would be my pleasure.

Good idea~. I imagine I can give such a scandalous thing to a student without it being too inappropriate as long as she's an old friend, but if some middle schoolers get their hands on it and it turns out it comes from me, that might be a little bit frowned upon.

[Suddenly having to remember about being a teacher and in a position of authority is kind of weird to him, but he'll do his very best. He has seen what can happen when people inadvertently blur that line, and he knows where the blame in that situation lies.]

And they really were. I found them in this old, musty bookshop in Johannesburg. You know, the romantic kind that seems to be frozen in time? It's the best kind.

I already have friends who do, but I thought I'd see if any of the newer students did. I've got a good sized collection, and good books are meant to be shared.

It is. It's absolutely gorgeous here in the fall when all the leaves start changing. If you're at all into photography, I recommend taking pictures around campus then. Otherwise, it's just nice to walk around.

[There's a slight pause before she decides Bridget ought to be warned about something.]

Make sure you're careful about watching out for people who might be practicing with their powers outside, though.

I'm also just a few months away from being legally an adult, so what you give to a student who's almost eighteen versus what you let a twelve year old get their hands on is a bit different.

[Between what she's read already, seen in movies, or read from people's minds, it's unlikely that she'd be seeing anything new.]

Ooooh! That kind! I love those classic bookshops. The big store chains have a great selection, but sometimes you find some real hidden gems in the older bookshops.
