[Krista gives the camera a little wave, dressed in a cute, conservative blouse and skirt in the girls' dorm lounge.]

It's me again. I wanted to ask everyone...

Would anyone be interested in starting some kind of a community outreach club? For volunteer activities, and things like that. I know it wouldn't be difficult to get staff sponsorship, but I was wondering if I could find other people who want to.

[She pauses, then gives a shrug and a smile.]

Thank you, anyway! And thank you very much to the people who've helped me get settled in, and who bid on me at Valentine's Day.

[The camera came up on Greg, standing against the wall, beaming a million watt smile. Not literally, but he was all fired up. And that WAS literal, small tongues of white fire licking around his hair.]

"I was actually about starting to recruit a team to train, and do exactly that. Want to combine our efforts? I'm all fired up about this idea! Get back to me soon, okay?" Yes, he totally did just say that.

"A team?" She hadn't thought of doing it that way. Would that discourage people who wanted to stay as civilians from helping out?

"I was thinking a club, but if it's for the same thing... how would that work?" Were they that different, she wondered? Maybe they could have both and collaborate most of the time?

"Not sure yet, I'm still learning as I set it up," he said with a bright grin. And then he unknowingly echoed her thought.

"Maybe we could do both, some overlap, but if some people are more into one than the other they'll just be in that one, and most of us will be in both?" He asked with a bright smile. "We can figure it all out together."

Greg didn't need his White Fire to make people happy, or put them in a good mood, often. Most of the time, his infectious good cheer was enough. And when that failed, he could generally make a pun bad enough to make them forget what they were upset about.

He got so excited he started floating, white flames licking across his body and hair.

It was all good.

"We could do concerts for charity, clean up parks, help out in nursing homes for the club, and the team could clean up parks, help out in nursing homes, try to calm people down at protests... a lot of overlap. Maybe just.. it's team for the more dangerous stuff, so that people who are nervous could still help, but they know when to hang back?"

The idea was getting him more and more hyper.

Perhaps that was just something he normally did? The floating, and the fire. Krista was still working on figuring out what passed for normal here.

"I was just thinking something like that! So people who don't want to be involved too directly in the dangerous things can still feel like they have a way to help out..."

"Yes! I love it! Let's do it!"

His enthusiasm was a little bit overpowering. Krista found herself feeling a little bit strange about it -- was he playing it up for some reason? Making fun of her in some way she couldn't understand? She didn't quite think so -- it felt more like it was genuine, which honestly made her faintly jealous.

"I wouldn't mind being part of the team, but I could organize things for the club, if that's alright with you?"

"Sure, I'll head up the team, you'll head up the club, we'll both be in both, coordinate and work together!"

He was thrilled by this. This was going to be SO EPIC!

[In her old school... that would have made her a pariah, but here... she had only one real friend now...]

"If you're in, I'm in."

She hit send before she could loose her nerve.

She smiled so brightly when she saw the response, and sent one back immediately.

"Anything for a friend!"

Krista had no idea how true that was.

I'm so glad I can count on you.

"Of course!"

Any time. Every time. Eli danced around her room, so happy to have a friend.

Like the same things we were doing in District X?

Something a lot like that, but more regularly! I'm sure there are some places here in town that could use a few helping hands.

Um...not yet. I'll think about it, though.

I think we become too isolated in this school sometimes. It will be good to interact with the mutant masses.

[Krista dithers a while about how to answer this one. She feels like he may be misinterpreting her intentions, but doesn't want to be confrontational or push him away from the idea of helping out.]

I was thinking more about helping out locally.

Mutant and humans. There are plenty of both who need help.

What's... 'community outreach'?

It's doing good things for people in the community, to help them and to let them know we want to help.

Like that thing last month? Except I woke up too late and missed the bus...

Like that, but more often, and probably closer to home. What do you think?
