It gives him time to read back over what he's written, double-check for typos, look a couple things up in his dictionary and make sure it's translating right, and generally put on enough polish to not sound like an eleven-year-old who's been in the country for all of two days.]

I used to go to the shrine every day back home. I don't think they're very common in America, but it seems like there are a lot of Japanese students here.

Is there anything like that on the school grounds? Or just a quiet enough place to go would be okay, too. I don't want to stop just because I moved.

Most of the time. I'm used to my roommate never shutting up either though, so sometimes it's still a better alternative to go out there.

That guy seems convinced he's being held in this school against his own will and is constantly yelling about it and being a pain in the ass.

Never seen a guy with a bigger persecution complex.

If he's that loud about it...it kind of is against his will, isn't it?

Even if his situation is that weird, he could at least go for a slightly more reasonable option. One that isn't going to give half the school a headache, preferably. But to be honest, he just seems sort of delusional.

That's what I told him. He didn't seem too interested in hearing that though.

Maybe he really just is interested in ruining things for people who are just trying to find some quiet for once.
