Avoiding. I'm only taking this class in the first place because it's required. I'd have passed otherwise.

I get you. Any other classes that you do like?

Physics. It's like math; there's only one right answer and no wishy-washy-ness. 'Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.' None of this multiple interpretations shite you get in History and Literature.

I was never a math guy, but I get your point. Interpretations can be really one-sided. Like the case with that guy that was killed.

Ah yes, the martyr. Talk about a perfect sacrifice. Everyone's painting him like some sort of noble saint, but it's the people who're too good to be true that you really have to watch out for. To me, he sounded like an absolute prick, all patting himself on the back for being an ally to mutants. Not to speak ill of the dead, but I don't know how he thought he was helping, 'witnessing' to us. Like we'd somehow stop being mutants if we all believed in God and got ourselves registered like good little sheep?

[The finger quotes around 'witnessing' are nearly audible, the sarcasm in Alex's voice is so thick. He's seen it before, the holier-than-thou false piety. And he's not swallowing any of it.]

[Zian has to agree with some of it, but it was a very complicated situation that could blow up really badly in everyone's faces.]

I don't know, man. It's hard to say what's real and what is people's opinion about him. Both parties string him up for different things and who he really was might never come to light.

[He sighs.]

[In Alex's opinion, the question isn't whether it 'could' blow up, but 'when' it will blow.]

In the end, it probably won't even matter who he really was. The way he'll be remembered will be determined by which side wins.

...which is the saddest part of it all.

No, what's sad is that he'll probably be remembered one way or another, but history won't remember any of the mutants who've died because of all this.

Both are sad in different way... but yeah, I agree. We should keep records or something.

So that maybe a hundred years in the future someone will look back and go "actually, that was really fucked up"?

Preferably sooner than that, but look at the Native Americans.

I really hope not... but considering what happened back in my country, I wouldn't doubt it.

That's why this school and the X-Men are so important... to prevent that.

Where are you from, if I might ask?

Russia. They tried to murder all us ličínka - um, Russian morlocks - by releasing a necrotic virus in the sewers. Most of us died or got terribly disfigured.

It's pretty much death or become a superweapon slave for the government over there.

I knew it was bad in Russia, but damn. I'm sorry.

As far as I know they never tried that in the UK, but I didn't know much about the Morlock community there.

[He wants to say 'it's okay', but it really wasn't. He lost his voice there, his throat, his ability to eat like a normal person. He became more of a monster than before.]

It's... quite a difference between the human-looking mutant people and people like me when it comes to acceptance. We can't even hide in peace.

That's why I want to help as many people as possible, to prove that we are still the same.

Except the people that really need that proven to them can't be reasoned with. It's going to take nothing short of a miracle to keep Registration from happening. And once it does, even us human-looking mutants won't be able to hide in peace.

Doesn't mean we won't stop trying. If I ever see a FOH person having a heart attack, I will heal them. If that changes their mind, that's a step in the right direction.

I'm not giving up. If we can survive giant robots and organ stealers attacking the institute, we can fight for our right to not be registered.

I'm not giving up either, but just how are we supposed to fight it? Especially when there's groups like the MLF making mutant-human relations even more volatile.

I don't know, honestly... but I believe the professor does.
