[Haruka appears on the network for the very first time! Shyness overcome! It's been a while, but he's finally ready to start really trying to meet people on his own accord. What better when than by striking up a little spooky scary discussion? It's been a fun Halloween and Haruka is filled with energy. He's not still in his robot costume, but the little barcode and numbers he had scrawled on his cheek as part of his robot look still remained. Should've used the stuff that was easy to wash off.]

Happy Halloween! I haven't really used this thing before, so...Well, I have, but only in reply to other people! My name's Haruka if you don't know me, and I had a fun thought I felt like sharing. A spooky, Halloween thought!

You know there's lots of urban legends and myths and spooky stories since a long time ago. Not just regarding Halloween, but those are definitely the ones I'm thinking about! It's stuff that is clearly impossible and fictitious. There's no such thing as monsters or ghosts or ghouls or goblins...

But there's mutants like us, right? Maybe some of the mysterious monsters of Halloween lore were actually just mutants, but were assumed to be something more supernatural? It could happen, right? The concept of human mutations barely existed a long time ago...Maybe some of that stuff were just early people who couldn't control their mutations, but in reality were just like us? So, technically, we'd all be the stuff of Halloween myth!

Of course, I could be all wrong, but it's fun to think about, don't you think? It's a perspective I've never had before, and it makes thinking about things I thought could only be fiction that much more fun!

You're more right than you might think. Take, for example, the yamabiko of Japanese myth. Pretty sure they were mutants. Since I look like one and basically make echoes.

One of the people living at the temple I was at was a Nue, even. I like to think Japan's history of youkai and monsters all come down to mutants.

The monsters that rampaged in the nightmares of small children for centuries.

It's kind of what comes with being a youkai.

Hey, maybe. Though mutants always seem to have different powers - do you think there'd really be that many who can walk through walls or turn invisible and do all the things ghosts do? Or you know, drink blood and all that like vampires?
batteredbatter: (That doesn't sound right.)

[personal profile] batteredbatter 2014-11-06 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's true - I'm sure there's definitely some crazy legends out there that were just actually mutants. I, uh, I'd probably get burned at the stake a few hundred years ago or something.

[ Yeah, this is sort of a sore topic for him. Although you wouldn't be able to tell, since.. well, it's Natsuno, if you ever manage to catch the guy without a frown on his face then you should assume the apocalypse is about to knock on your door.

So he's frowning now too, except this time he actually has a reason to. Go figure. It's even audible in his voice. ]

Who says that those things don't exist? [ You try running into a bunch of vampires, then it suddenly becomes real very, very quickly. ]

They're just saying they don't just because they've never seen one. If there weren't so many of us, they would say we don't exist either.

[ Probably. And either way, Natsuno might actually have preferred it that way.. it would bring way less hassle. ]

Of course there are such things as ghosts! Ghosts, demons, magic it's definitely real...

Mutants might just be a another in the line of that though. I mean, some of our powers have to be magic.

Why wouldn't I? There's plenty of reasons to believe in the supernatural! I guess some of it might just look like kid stuff, but things like Fate, or magic, are impossible to say don't exist!

That's how things are in Oz. Witches, wizards, things like that.

[Liir doesn't look up from his homework as he says this.]
